U.S.S. Battleship Maine The Battleship USS Maine was dispatched from Key West Florida on January 24th, 1898 and just 22 days later, while anchored in Havana, Cuba, suffered an explosion that killed two-thirds of her crew. The ship sank immediately and was finally raised and disposed of by sinking at sea. 100 years later, the Borough of Pompton Lakes erected a memorial in the Park that houses and displays the original funnel of the battleship.
The Pompton Furnace The Ironworks was first mentioned in the 1726 Survey. Tradition has it that the Pompton works supplied ball and shot for the French and Indian War." A series of owners operated what soon became a large steelworks complete in every detail including housing for the workers. The great flood of October, 1903 destroyed the mill dam. It was rebuilt but the mill no longer used water power.
Joe Louis Memorial Park Joe Louis, aka "The Brown Bomber", won many events over his lifetime and became known as one of the premier boxers in the world. He began his search for a new training facility and wound up in Pompton Lakes at Dr. Joseph Bier's first class training facility. As a lasting tribute, a monument was erected on land donated by the Elks Club #1895, the site of Dr. Bier's training facility.

Investment Real Estate >Retirement and the Second Home
Buying a second home as rental property makes a great centerpiece to your retirement plan. It forces you to make regular savings in the form of mortgage payments that become your equity.
You only need cash for the down payment, and you should make sure that your monthly rental payments will cover the mortgage and any additional expenses. This is a real possibility if you buy the right house at the right price because a good single-family house should always stay rented. Your investment money is subject to less income tax, and the interest and property taxes may be deductible.
Housing has appreciated in value all over the country in recent years, making a second home an important hedge against inflation. Most experts predict that interest rates for fixed-rate and adjustable mortgages should remain in single digits for the foreseeable future, so it should be easy to acquire financing with a small down payment.
Call an agent with your real estate questions. They have helped hundreds of people to sell their homes and properties--and to purchase the home of their dreams.
